26 bridges – Gordie Howe and Grand Trunk Rail Bridge

In August of 2017 I took an evening trip out to the old Grand Trunk rail bridge and new Gordie Howe South Circle Drive bridges for some sunset photos.  The night was calm so there was not a ripple on the river.  A beautiful Saskatchewan summer night.  It made for a good evening of photos.

1908 2013

This photo turns out to be my favorite of the bunch.  I just love the mix of the old with the new in this photo.  Plus the reflections are pretty cool too.  The title reflects the completion dates of the grand trunk and Gordie Howe bridges.

I have since made this shot into a print available for purchase.  My first colour bridge print for sale.

Under South Circle

A shot from partly under the South Circle Bridge.  This shot is a combination of 3 exposures to attempt to show both the shadows and sunset, but since it’s hand held the rail bridge trusses look odd because of ghosting.  I may have to try this one again with a tripod.

Clouds on Fire

Just after the sun had gone down the clouds were on fire.  Then a train came by so I had to scramble to get into position for this shot.  I just love seeing trains on these old rail bridges, like has been happening since 1908.

Under the Trunk

A shot of the supporting trusses under the Grand trunk rail bridge.  I love the lines here.

Grand Trunk Sunset

The light of the setting sun reflecting off the trusses for the old rail bridge.  I processed this one in both colour and black and white.

The sun about to set on the old rail bridge, with a near perfect reflection in the river below.
