new print – “1908 2013” Gordie Howe Bridge and Grand Trunk Rail Bridge

On a beautiful calm summer evening in August 2017 I took a trip to photograph the old Grand trunk Rail Bridge and new Gordie Howe Bridge at sunset.  The South Circle Drive Bridge was renamed the Gordie Howe Bridge in 2016.  I was treated to a beautiful evening with perfectly calm waters reflecting the clouds at sunset.  More photos from this trip to the bridges are in this blog post.

The world being the small place that it is I ended up being in touch with the wife of the lead engineer on the build of the new bridge. She is the new mother in law of a friend’s daughter at work.  This friend from work bought a couple of bridge pictures of mine for a wedding gift to her daughter. The wife of the lead engineer liked my bridge photos and asked if I had anything of the new bridge for a retirement gift for her husband. This happened to be about a week after I took this photo, so I did a rough process and sent her a file.

She liked it enough that she bought it in a 20×24 print to give to her husband. I had to push the processing pretty hard because of the shadows on the under structure of the new bridge, but I’m glad that I did as it looks great as a print.  This is also the first large colour print that I’ve sold. The title of the print was chosen to signify the year the years each of the bridges were completed.
