Last week I took the good camera out for a kayak at the lake. I was looking for ducks or geese, and went for a 30 minute paddle without seeing a single one. That is until I arrived back at the cabin and got the kayak out of the water when I turned around and saw some a few cabins out to the north. So I put the kayak back in and headed out again.
What I found were some beautiful water fowl doing their thing. My knowledge of birds is limited, so this meant an identification of “birds, likely loons or ducks”. Fortunately my wife has a friend that works at ducks unlimited so it was further narrowed down to merganser ducks. The internet helped further classify as common mergansers.
Whatever the species, they are beautiful animals, and I’m glad that I brought my camera along for the paddle.
